And, just like that, the Christmas party season is upon us again. I’m not complaining, I am a huge fan of this time of year – it’s the perfect excuse to dress up. As someone who often relies on a little black dress, I shall be trying something a little different this year – velvet.
It’s fast becoming a wintry favourite and with good reason. The heavy, plush fabric screams luxury in a decadent, but not gaudy, way and, quite frankly, is a lot warmer than its material counterpart, satin.
This moody bloom-printed Victoriana-style dress from Monsoon cunningly covers enough to allow me to boldly go jacket and tights-free, so I can make the most of my bow-tied ankles wrapped in these heels from Marks & Spencer. Velvet oversized earrings (Zara) and a sparkly bag (Topshop) finish off the perfect party ensemble because, after all, what is Christmas without a touch of sparkle?
