My Neighbourhood - Trisha Buller -Berkhamsted

Ciente’s Salon Director Trisha Buller reveals her favourite places to dine, visit and shop in her local neighbourhood of Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, and beyond…

My Neighbourhood - Trisha BullerHome is…
Berkhamsted, where I have lived for 15 years, with my partner, Colin.

Work is…
I am the Salon Director at Cienté Hair and Health Spa on Berkhamsted High Street. I’m also an assessor for NVQ skills-based apprenticeships and run a training school called Arrocca , also based in Berkhamsted. We work closely with hair transplant surgeons and I am a qualified consultant Trichologist. I am also proud to be a patron of The Pepper Foundation in Tring; a local charity offering respite care for children with life-threatening or life-limiting illness and their families. We are also supporters of the Children with Cancer charity, as well as local schools and sports clubs. I am an active member of The Hair Council, a Director on the board of governors at The Institute of Trichologists, a member of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery, and a member of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists. As a company, we really believe in supporting our industry and our town.

Favourite place to spend a relaxing Sunday…
I love spending quality time with my three grandchildren, Alexia, Jimmy and Bella, and we all love walking our dog, Rocky, together. The Gatsby restaurant on the High Street is my favourite place for a Sunday roast; the food is always consistently fab, as is the service. We also love to walk Rocky to The Alford Arms in Frithsden on a Sunday in the summer, and sit outside for lunch.

Most memorable meal I’ve had locally…
The I Love Food Kitchen on Lower Kings Road is my favourite spot for breakfast; they serve perfect eggs every time. They also make the best meatballs in tomato sauce and the place has so much character. I feel service is key, as it really adds to your experience, and there is great service here.

Favourite place for a night out with friends…
We are very fortunate to have an amazing social life through our hairdressing industry, and we often attend shows, beautiful gala nights, red-carpet-glamour events and competition evenings. So when we get together with friends, I prefer it to be at home with a great bottle of Rioja and lovely food, sharing stories of the past and listening to Colin’s brilliant music collection.

Favourite spot for some retail therapy…
My favorite shopping places are the small boutique independents. If I’m looking for inspiration for makeover ideas for my home, for the business or for myself, I go to Knightsbridge, Kensington and also Marylebone High Street in London, and search out the local independent shops. In Berkhamsted, I like Boutique Makana on the High Street, which stocks some wonderful womens’ clothes and accessories. Claire, Nina and Remy always provide fantastic service. It’s important to keep our local businesses in business.

Tring Park - My Neighbourhood - Trisha Buller

Local building I’d most like to live in…
Tring Park Mansion, which is home to Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, would be an ideal home for me. It is steeped in history, in a great location and private. I also enjoy going to watch their shows; the performances from their pupils are of such a high standard, it’s good to see future stars in the making.

Best place for a nightcap…
If we finish work late, we often pop into Bill’s on Berkhamsted High Street, who are really good at taking care of us last-minute. They serve a lovely Argentinian Malbec and delicious small platters. Now we have a new wine bar, The Berkeley, in Berkhamsted as well, which is on my go-to list, too.

Favourite local discovery…
The Diamond Trust jeweller, located behind St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted, is simply a hidden gem. They offer a great personal service with any jewellery requirements, which makes for a lovely retail experience.

Best spot for a family day out…
My grandchildren love Mead Open Farm near Leighton Buzzard. It caters for all ages in all weathers and is a great day out for a family. I find Pizza Express on the High Street in Berkhamsted good for children, too, as they are always accommodating. They do some lovely salads, too.
