My Neighbourhood | Kim Winser on the Chilterns

Kim Winser OBE shares her favourite places to eat, shop and unwind around her home.

HOME IS…
I’ve lived in this area – in both Denham and Hedgerley – since the mid ’90s. My son was born in High Wycombe. I love the area as we can enjoy the wonders of the countryside, yet it’s no distance from London or Heathrow airport – both very important for my business life.

WORK IS…
I launched Winser London four years ago to offer busy women luxurious quality clothes at sensible prices. My first shop was in Gerrards Cross and my first fashion show was held at Stoke Park, so it’s a nice local story! I’m also a non-executive Director of the Peninsula Hotel group and a trustee of the Natural History Museum.

FAVOURITE PLACE FOR A SPECIAL MEAL…
I prefer relaxed eating locally as I’m entertained at some of the best venues in London. I love the Black Horse in Fulmer, which always serves great food, or the Spice Merchant in Beaconsfield for some spicy grilled prawns.

FAVOURITE PLACE FOR BRUNCH WITH FRIENDS…
The Grocer in Gerrards Cross – it’s great that I can take my Welsh Springer Spaniel as he loves all the attention! It was launched recently by the fabulous Kim and Marcello, who are frequently cooking up something delicious in the kitchen. Their mushrooms on toast are perfectfor breakfast.

Favourite place for some retail therapy…
I love my own Winser London shops, of course! One is in Gerrards Cross, the other is in Marlow. I’m frequently meeting customers and friends in the GX store and also topping up my own wardrobe.

Favourite spot when I’m feeling energetic…
I’m a member at Stoke Park. I certainly won’t be the most regular visitor there, but I try to go a couple of times a month. I also love walking at the weekend with my lovely Springer – favourite walks are Black Park or along the river at Marlow.

Favourite local discovery…
The bluebell fields in Hedgerley are always a winner, but my favourite local discovery was finding my home of 10 years, and having family and friends in my garden. I am lucky to be surrounded by fields and flowers, with woods as a backdrop.

Favourite spot for a family day out…
At this time of year, it would be a long walk with friends and dogs, and then on to a pub with great food, like The Royal Standard at Forty Green, which is apparently the oldest free house in England.
