Henry and Katherine Cripps - My Neighbourhood

Restauranteurs Henry and Katherine Cripps reveal their favourite places to dine, visit and shop in their local neighbourhood of Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, and beyond…

Home is…
Beaconsfield. We’ve been here for six years, now with our two children and the newest addition to the family, Bailey, our Hungarian Vizsla. We love Beaconsfield as it’s close to our three businesses, and it’s also very easy to get to and from London for research and for Katherine’s job as a voice-over artist.

Work is…
Organised chaos in the wonderful world of hospitality! We proudly own two local gastropubs – The Three Oaks on Austenwood Lane in Gerrards Cross and The White Oak on The Pound in Cookham – and a new high-street venture, No5 in Beaconsfield Old Town, which we opened last June. We love the changing nature and excitement that surrounds food and drink. Every day is a school day, though, as this industry is 24/7. We have the most fantastic teams, and having won several awards along the way, it really makes all the hard work worth it.

Favourite place to spend a relaxing Sunday…
We love spending family time at our own restaurants, as they all do a fabulous Sunday roast and it saves Katherine cooking! If we’re not out walking the dog or ferrying the children around, we’re usually mucking about outside. But lunch at home is always the most relaxing for us.

Most memorable meal I’ve had locally…
No question, it would be The Waterside Inn in Bray. The baron of lamb is exquisite when carved expertly by Diego, and although the restaurant is quite ‘old school’, it is exceptional across the board.

Favourite place for a night out with friends…
It’s usually at a friend’s house and we also host a lot of dinner parties at ours – we love entertaining. However, The Artichoke in Old Amersham is lovely, The Coach in Marlow is great for an informal date night, and China Diner in Beaconsfield New Town is a firm family favourite.

Favourite spot for some retail therapy…
Locally, I’d like to say the staff in Repertoire fashion in Beaconsfield New Town are always so helpful and friendly. We also love Heidi & Hudson boutique in Gerrards Cross for some really unique pieces.

Favourite local discovery…
Believe it or not, it’s Allsorts – an independent handyman shop hidden in The Arcade off Maxwell Road in Beaconsfield. They always have everything you need and more, and are always so friendly. Smith & Kittle café  in Beaconsfield is also a fantastic little place, lovely for a coffee pit-stop. Papers Newsagents  in Old Amersham also make an unbelievably tasty sandwich!
