My Neighbourhood | Alessia Givetti on Gerrards Cross

Alessia Givetti, founder of E-Side boutique, discusses home, work, family and social life in her local neighbourhood of Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, and beyond

Home is…

I live in Gerrards Cross with my partner and our two boys, Matteo, seven, and Tomasso, 13 months. We’re relatively new to the area, although we know Gerrards Cross well, having recently moved from Beaconsfield. We’re very lucky to have such welcoming neighbours. The community is very friendly and everything you need is practically on your doorstep.

Work is…

I’m founder of E-Side, an online concept shop with a new boutique recently opened in Gerrards Cross. We’re one of the only few dedicated retailers in the UK selling modern, sustainably-made designer furniture and homewares.

Favourite place to spend a relaxing Sunday…

One of the great things about living in this area is the rambling countryside; you really get to appreciate the simple
things in life here. I love going on relaxing strolls with the kids at weekends. There’s a footpath in Hedgerley Lane we like to take, and we often stop to stroke and feed the horses in the field. The footpath leads to Bulstrode Park and I head back home via Camp Road, all the while gazing at the beautiful scenery. Afterwards, we head to The Three Oaks pub on Austenwood Lane for a delicious lunch. It’s so cosy; picture low wooden beams, exposed brickwork and a generously-sized roaring fireplace. It’s a home away from home.

Most memorable meal I’ve had locally…

A burger made with pulled pork at The Three Oaks. It was absolutely delicious. I’m Italian by heritage and simple, delicious, locally sourced food is something that we take for granted back at home, but it’s not always so accessible here. I like how The Three Oaks have a great selection of creative, yet simple, hearty dishes.

Favourite place for a night out with friends…

A typical night out will be a quick dinner at Jack and Alice wine bar and pantry on Packhorse Road, and then a visit to the Everyman Cinema on Ethorpe Crescent to watch a film– just myself and a couple of friends (no children!).

Favourite spot for some retail therapy…

Gerrards Cross has some great boutiques but, for a shopping fix further afield, I like to go to Windsor. My favourite shops are Jigsaw and Sweaty Betty, especially when the sales are on! I also love Marylebone for The Conran Shop and Scandium.

Best place for a nightcap…

There’s no place like home! I like to sit curled up in a chair with a cup of proper coffee and look outside our living room window where we have a great view of the woods. I never tire of looking at nature. The view changes with the seasons, but the beauty always remains the same. I think looking at and admiring nature is a great way of staying mindful, especially when you have a busy life.

Favourite local discovery…

Latchmoor Pond in Gerrards Cross West Common is a lovely place to sit and relax, read a book, or simply drink in the views.
